Double-sized beds, often called full-sized, have the dimension of about 54” x 75” and are considered a mid-sized bed. The queen-sized, which are the next size up, are 60” x 80” in size. These two sizes are usually only compared by couples that want a descent sized bed without paying the high prices that are known to accompany the King-sized bed. Since they are similar in size, except for a few inches, many people wonder if there really is much difference at all.
The double-sized bed is often the cheaper way to go. Besides the bed itself, the bedding is also fairly cheaper than ones for the Queen-sized beds. Even the frame is often cheaper as it is only a rectangular box and doesn’t need any extra support in the middle.
The full-sized bed is perfect for a single person, though it can hold two people as well, as long as you are okay with being a little cramped. It doesn’t take up very much space, making it suitable for smaller rooms, allowing room for other furniture and plenty of walking space. It is easy to move, thanks to its smaller size, making it simpler to move and flip when it becomes necessary.
Queen-sized beds are more costly than the full-sized ones, but are usually more comfortable, especially for two people. Even though there is only about 5 more inches of space, that 5” can often be a big relief when sleeping with someone else. The mattress itself is usually more comfortable, and is better liked when compared to the full-sized.
The price, however, is usually the reason why people often choose the full-sized. The mattress is more expensive, sometimes by hundreds of dollars, and you have to use a special frame that has support in the middle, thus making that more costly as well. Bedding, of course, is also more expensive, which should be taken into account when thinking of investing in one.
The one thing that doesn’t really change from the full-sized one is the size. It is still a fairly descent size for most rooms and doesn’t take up a lot of extra space. If you know that a full-sized bed will fit just fine, you really don’t have to worry about this one, unless, of course, it is an extremely small room where every inch counts. The weight is also not much more than the full one, though it may seem like it when you try to move it or flip it on your own.
In short, the full-sized is recommended for individuals, while the queen-sized is better suited for couples. Even so, it will all depend on how your budget, how much you are willing to invest in it, and whether or not you need the extra couple of inches. Every person is different, so you will have to make the judgment based on your own situation. In the long run, though, couples are probably better off investing the extra money into the queen-sized, merely because it is more comfortable and will be of better use to them in the future.
